Ugh. These appear to be those horrific Harlequin Ladybirds that are devastating biodiversity in the UK and Europe. They’re an invasive species with a voracious appetite that both deprive indigenous Ladybirds of their normal prey, and even leads them to prey on indigenous Ladybirds when aphids are in short supply. 

Not only that, they stink, they tend to bite humans, they spoil grape and soft fruit crops, and they’re a domestic pest.

They were introduced to North America because some greedy cunt agrifirm decided it wasn’t profitable enough to let seven-spotters do their thing, and from there they’ve been devouring their way across three continents quicker than you can say 28 Days Later.

I say they appear to be Harlequins, because the artist’s use of spots is all over the place. Which suggests that the artist isn’t so much painting loads of them with loads of spots to raise awareness or comment on the invasion reaching his home country of Hungary; rather that he painted a vague idea of what a Ladybird looks like without researching it properly.

Well, some say art is supposed to provoke a reaction. There’s mine.
